I'm not sure the remains of either the Globe or the Rose were discovered in 1989, but excavations were carried out on both sites in that year. A replica of the Globe was built on an adjacent site, opening in 1997; the Rose was reproduced for the 1998 film Shakespeare in Love, and and partially re–opened in 2007 (as a "performance space", with actors performing around its perimeter).
